VAN DER VEGT revisits an old tradition in Dutch painting: the flower still life. Ever since the Symbolists of the XVIIth century, up to the Romantic’s from the XIXth, and via the decorative flower bouquets from the XVIIth century, the flower still live has not undergone a wrinkle. The only difference being that Van der Vegt pursues it his own way, on two meter high canvasses, while painting the flowers first and the background afterwards. This gives his paintings a particular depth. From a distance the effect is stirring. He has a remarkable eye for colour and composition.
