At the Academy already, Hans LEIJERZAPF had a penchant for anecdotal painting and drawing and thought that art should not be "distinguished" but rather part of society. Through the years he developed his own particular style and choice of subjects. He has something to do with men in often grotesque situations that handle ordinary or unusual objects, a world of burlesque and offbeat humor.
Hans Leijerzapf was born in Leiden in 1951. In 1974 he graduated from the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague in graphics and painting.
